The above photos were taken looking West down my driveway and on the way to catch the ferry to the mainland.
November 6. Nature has a way of challenging us. Yesterday I had to clear five rather large trees from my driveway in order to get out and onto the highway. Many, many thanks to my niece for helping out in a pinch. She’s an angel in human form. And to Denice for getting me safely to the airport on time.
On the way to the airport from Whidbey Island, Friday night’s storm took out several transformers; each road we turned down revealed 100-foot trees dangling over the highway held up only by power lines. Good news, we managed to make it onto the first ferry. This is it. The first day of my long journey to Antarctica.
When I lived in Hawthorne, Calif. I was five minutes away from the Los Angeles International Airport. Catching a flight to anywhere in the world was a breeze in comparison to living on Whidbey Island. So when my friends and relatives say, “But you’re so isolated!” I tell them it’s the price of Paradise and Paradise is beautiful!
I’m sitting at my gate in the airport now. The pre-trip jitters are gone. The adventure begins!
Thank you to everyone reading this blog and for those who have helped me get to this point. Love and hugs.
Wow, what a sendoff! Mother Nature says "watch out girl, I'm gonna show you some real amazing stuff down there!"
